Afghan protesters attack Pakistani consulate in Germany

Building of Pakistani consulate in Germany’s fifth largest city, Frankfurt, was attacked by Afghan nationals on Sunday, according to credible sources. The building was vandalised and pelted with stones while the Pakistani flag was disrespected and pulled down.

A video clip in which the Afghans can be seen storming the building has gone viral on social media; reports also say the rioters tried to burn the Pakistani flag.

Following the incident, Pakistani diplomats raised concerns about the security of foreign establishments and requested Germany’s Foreign Ministry to probe into the attack, reported Geo News TV. An official pointed out that the German government is responsible for the security of foreign diplomatic installations.

The situation has also drawn the attention of other foreign communities that have raised concerns regarding security matters. Pakistani officials have been assured of a thorough investigation by the German authorities in Frankfurt.

Several people have been arrested who are being investigated. However, the cause of the incident remains unclear.
