‘Dawn’ assails Imran and Nawaz both

EDITOR’S FAVOURITES

February 23, 2025

Daily ‘Dawn’ has again hit the proverbial nail on its head. In a balanced but hard-hitting editorial, the newspaper has taken to task both Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif for “their continued refusal to get over themselves”. The opinion piece should resonate with all the level-headed Pakistanis who are genuinely concerned about the country’s future.

The editorial very rightly said: “It cannot solve Pakistan’s fundamental problem, which is that two of its most important leaders still cannot get over themselves. One considers himself a great politician but refuses to do politics, while the other once called himself the biggest champion of civilian supremacy (and) yet refuses to stand up for it now.”

The article suggested that the two leaders should make compromises purely for the sake of the country’s people and for their collective good.

This journalist, for one, agrees wholeheartedly with the message sought to be driven home by the worthy newspaper, especially the sentiment expressed in the editorial’s last bit, which reads: “Obstinacy has gotten the country nowhere in the last three-odd years. The cycle of violence and retribution will need to stop so that things can improve. Until it does, there can be little hope for sociopolitical and economic stability in Pakistan.”
