Civil organisation ‘punished over election rigging claim’

POINTS TO PONDER

February 23, 2025

A CIVIL society organisation (CSO) has alleged its properties in Islamabad and Multan have been sealed as “punishment for publishing a report that has exposed widespread fraud and rigging in the last general election”.

According to a report published by daily ‘Dawn’, the Pattan Development Organisation has said the house of its chief and its office in Multan have been sealed following the publication of its report entitled “War on Voters”. The two properties have been sealed on the orders of the interior ministry.

‘Dawn’ reported that a notice has been pasted at the gate of the organisation’s office in Multan. The order, issued by the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Multan, stated that the action was taken on the Ministry of Interior’s letter dated Feb 18.

The letter stated that Pattan was dissolved in Nov 2019, and the NGO “did not challenge” the order in any court.

However, a spokesman for the CSO said they never received any notice from any governmental agency. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan had issued accreditation to Pattan’s election observers, adding that all records can be presented to the media.
