THE jaw-dropping Mustafa Amir kidnapping and murder case has blown the lid off the massive narcotics trade that has firmly gripped some educational institutions in Karachi, thereby ruining the lives of countless students.
During investigations of the high-profile murder case it has been found that the suspected killer (Armaghan) used to smoke weed and the slain young man (Mustafa) used to supply the substance to him. Differences that emerged between the two amidst the involvement of a common female friend resulted in the gruesome murder of the 23-year-old Mustafa.
Although Armaghan and his friend Shiraz were taken into custody as suspects in the case more than ten days ago, the true nature and extent of the narcotics trade was revealed only in recent days following the arrest of Sahir Hasan, who is the son of famous actor Sajid Hasan. Investigations into the case have revealed that drugs supplied from the US and Iran are being traded at a furious pace in the city.
Sahir has disclosed that students order drugs through smartphone apps, the ARY News has reported. The drugs are then delivered to specific locations by several means, including through courier services. He denied that drugs are supplied directly to the educational institutions, adding that students themselves place orders online. He also revealed that he and other drug peddlers like him befriend college and university students, who then become addicted to narcotics.
Initially only a few students buy narcotics; however the circle then expands steadily and surely in an educational institution. He made the startling revelation that he used to make Rs1.5 million per week simply by selling weed.
Sahir, who is currently on physical remand for his involvement in the murder case, also revealed the names of prominent businessmen, politicians, and other individuals linked to the drugs trade. The suspect reportedly admitted to transferring drug payments online through the account of his father’s manager.
He revealed that he had been working as a model for the past five years but was addicted to weed since 13 years ago. He also ‘confessed’ that he had been selling weed for two years and operated his business via Snapchat.
He got narcotics from individuals named Bazil and Yahya and smuggled drugs worth millions through courier companies, sources quoting the police investigation report said.
According to SSP Shoaib Memon, two major groups are involved in the narcotics trade in Karachi; one group smuggles narcotics from California, while the other one sells Iranian narcotics. The police have launched a crackdown on these groups, with a focus on the Iranian narcotics group.
The investigation has also revealed that the narcotics trade has been severely disrupted following the arrest of key suspects, including Sahir Hasan. Addicts are finding it difficult to obtain drugs, as a result.
