Manchester police brutally assault Pakistanis at airport
AN unsettling video showing an armed police officer kicking and stamping on a man’s head during an incident at the Manchester Airport has gone viral.
The video rapidly received thousands of views online, prompting Greater Manchester Police to address the concerns highlighted on social media. The police stated they had referred the incident to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, and one officer had been relieved of operational duties, according to BBC News.
Authorities reported being called to Terminal 2 for an “altercation among the public”, which escalated into a “violent assault” on officers attempting to make an arrest.
In the video, a male officer is seen pointing a taser at a man lying on the ground. According to reports, the males who were thrashed by police officers are British Pakistanis.
Shouts from bystanders can be heard before the cop kicks and stamps on the man’s head. The wild scenario continued as another person is heard saying “move back” as a female police is seen turning her taser towards other individuals present at the scene.
As many officers surround the man on the ground, several voices in the video cry “stop kicking people” and others yell expletives.
Moments later, another officer is shown pointing his taser at a different individual, who is kneeling with his arms raised. The cop then kicks that man as well.
After the violent footage was released, police issued a statement. Four people were arrested at the site on accusations of affray and assaulting emergency personnel.
A female cop reportedly smashed her nose, and other police officers were hospitalised.
According to BBC News, Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry stated: "We are aware that a widely circulated video of an event at Manchester Airport depicts a really bad scenario that people are understandably concerned about. The use of such force during an arrest is unusual, and we realise that it raises concerns.
The authorities indicated that it will study GMP’s referral “and decide what further action is required”.
