First day of Ramazan likely to fall on March 2

THE Meteorological Department has forecast that the Ramazan crescent will be sighted on March 1; the first day of the holy month, therefore, is likely to fall on March 2.

The website of Express Tribune quoted the Met department as saying “the moon will be born on February 28 at 5:45 PM”, marking the start of the Islamic month.

Foreign media outlets have suggested that the Ramazan moon will likely be seen on February 28 in the UAE and other Gulf countries, setting the stage for the beginning there of the Islamic month on March 1.

In Pakistan, the first day of fasting is likely to fall on March 2, depending on the visibility of the moon in different regions of the country.
